People at Laurier

Dr. Brenda Murphy, Geography and Contemporary Studies Brenda Murphy works on understanding how risks and disasters affect communities, including problems like natural disasters and nuclear waste, and one of her projects focused on the Walkerton e coli water crisis. She hopes to help students understand how the choices they make can have global consequences for the long-term sustainability of the planet. Murphy’s current project is a study of the social and political effects associated with siting nuclear waste facilities in small communities such as Port Hope and Kincardine, Ontario.
